In today’s world of digital marketing, we’re presented with a slew of additional creative ways to promote an event. An organization’s event marketing strategy may have previously included taking out an ad in a newspaper or sending invitations by mail to people’s homes or places of business. Are you wondering how to promote an event successfully in today’s world? Digital marketing for events makes it easier, and in many cases, less costly, to get the word out about your event. There are many ways you can promote your event online, and it is imperative that you include digital tactics when you create your event marketing process.

Here are four ways to elevate your digital marketing to promote an event successfully:

Using Your Website in Your Event Marketing Strategy

Adding the event to your website is the number one priority for elevating your event marketing strategy. You should create a unique web page, schedule blog posts that include information about the event, and promote it throughout your website using a homepage web slider, or an event banner crawling on the top of the website linking to your website.

Use Your Lists

You already have lists of contacts that may include customers, prospects, vendors, family and friends, colleagues, strategic partners, sponsors, donors, past attendees and more. Whether you have their email addresses, mailing addresses, or phone numbers – utilize them! Your event marketing strategy should absolutely include contacting your existing lists with as many touches as possible.

Share Your Event on Social

There are so many creative ways to promote your event and social media provides this opportunity. In addition to sharing it on the various channels, such as Facebook or LinkedIn, you can also create a hashtag for your event, go LIVE from Facebook or Instagram, as well as add posts to “Stories” that goes behind the scenes at the event preparation and planning.

Invest in Paid Social Advertising

Another way to use social media in your event marketing strategy is to create custom and lookalike audiences in Facebook’s Ads Manager using your past attendees or prospect/current customer list. Facebook gives you the opportunity to upload your lists and create a custom target audience, so that when you advertise – it will show your ad to this list. You can also use your custom audience as a seed for what Facebook calls a lookalike audience. Because Facebook has impeccable data on all of its users, it can identify the Facebook users who are most similar to your custom audience and call this list a lookalike audience. Now you can target the people who are most likely to attend your event or buy your product or service.

Find Event Aggregating Websites

Did you know that you can promote your event online for free? Event aggregating websites such as EventBrite.com and Meetup.com for free? Your local newspapers and Chambers might also have an opportunity for you to add your event listing to their websites. By adding your event to these websites, you are able to elevate your brand and increase awareness to those outside of your existing lists.

In conclusion, your digital event marketing strategy has endless possibilities. Some of these options may be easy to incorporate into your day-to-day marketing while others may take some additional time and budget.
