Important Google Update: Don’t Let Your Website Be Marked Unsecure
Google announced that on July 1, 2018 it will run a major update to Google Chrome. At that time, websites that do not have a correctly installed security (SSL) certificate will be marked as “not secure” in the Chrome browser.
What will happen if my site is not secure?
- Your Google search ranking will be negatively affected
- The hits to your site may decrease
- Your site’s bounce rate (when someone comes to the site and leaves quickly) may increase
What can I do?
Install an SSL certificate to your website.
How do I know if my site has an SSL certificate?
Your site already has an installed security certificate if your website starts with HTTPS:// in the URL bar.
If your website starts with HTTP://, you do not currently have a security certificate installed and your website will be marked “not secure” by Google Chrome on July 1, 2018.
How do I get an SSL certificate?
At Paradigm Marketing and Design, we offer SSL certificate installation. This can usually be accomplished in 2-4 hours, depending on your hosting provider and the size and scope of your website. Contact us with questions about your website today.
