Promoting Company Culture on Social Media: Making It Count

One of the reasons social media has become as popular as it has is because it gives us all a platform for promoting one of our favorite topics: ourselves. We use it to share details – both big and small – of our own lives, and we’ve become hooked on keeping up with the details of everyone else’s lives as well. (Think of it as getting a glimpse into someone else’s diary. It’s thrilling!) While this concept really only applied to individuals at first, many brands have started to embrace it on a corporate level because they’ve found that promoting company culture on social media (in other words, pulling back the curtain and giving the world a glimpse into who they are, as people, behind the scenes) is actually a great addition to their marketing strategies.
As a business, when you offer up the level of transparency that comes from promoting your company culture on social media, your audience gets to see the personality of your team shine through. More than just a business that makes ABC product or provides XYZ service, you’ve now become human in the eyes of your followers. These individuals start to feel more connected to your brand, their loyalty to you increases, and in some cases, you may even find that you become known as much for your company culture as for your offerings.
How do you promote company culture?
There are many creative ways to display your company values, but promoting company culture on social media should start with these three basic rules of thumb:
- Get personal
- Go behind the scenes
- Engage with your audience
In the end, the whole idea behind promoting your company culture on social media is to go beyond your products and services and turn the focus toward all of the other things that make your business successful.
Get personal
A business is nothing without its people, and yet – your followers probably don’t know much about all the amazing folks on your team who make that great work happen. You can change that by putting your people at the forefront of your company culture campaign, and letting the world know who they are.
Sharing their work accomplishments and accolades is a great start to promoting company culture on social media, but you can go deeper than that as well. You can even highlight your employees outside the office and showcase all of the amazing and interesting things that make them who they are, not just as professionals, but as people. Get personal, get real, get human.
Go behind the scenes
Do you have a cool office space full of fun and unique gadgets? Show us. We want to see your workspace! Or maybe you hosted an office yoga session or threw an employee appreciation party. Whatever’s going on behind the scenes – document it. It can all be used for giving your audience a peek behind the scenes and promoting company culture on social media.
Engage with your audience
Don’t just set it and forget it. It’s one thing to plan and schedule a whole bunch of fun and engaging social media posts, but if you don’t engage back, what’s the point? Remember, promoting company culture on social media is all about humanizing your business, and one of the best ways to do that is by interacting directly with your followers. When they comment, comment back. If they ask you a question, be sure to answer it. That little bit of engagement will go a long way in building a solid relationship with your audience, and those relationships can turn into dollar signs later.
Social media is an incredibly powerful tool for communicating and building relationships with your target audience, and sharing glimpses into your company culture is a great vehicle for making that happen.
