5 Tips for Setting up Success in 2018

It is time to start planning your business’s New Year’s Resolutions for 2018!  It is the beginning of the 4th Quarter and now is your opportunity to set yourself up for the best year yet.  Now is the time to reflect and evaluate how this year went and take action to see more growth next year.  Check out our list of five tips to set up success for the coming year:

1. Check in With Your Customers

Your customers are the focus of your business.  Every action you take, every campaign you run is aimed at helping them alleviate a pain point.  Therefore, it is important that you check in with your customers to make sure you are providing the solutions they need.  One way to get their feedback is reach out directly through customer surveys or interviews.  Sometimes, customers are not inclined to provide 100% truthful feedback directly to you, so you may want to consider a third party to assist in this matter.  That way, you can get a clear understanding of whether you are fulfilling their needs, whether they are considering competitors, and where you can improve.

2. Reflect on the Year

Look at your campaigns and your financial reports and figure out what has worked and what hasn’t.  Every social media post, every direct mail piece, every email campaign needs to do something! Whether it is to increase brand awareness, increase ROI or drive your customers to the next touch, your actions need to be the driving force behind success.  With that in mind, not everything comes down to dollars and cents.  Analyze your brand awareness strategy over the past year, and determine whether you allocated your resources to the

3. Strategy Planning

Through aggregating the feedback from your customers and your analytics, and evaluating what has worked and what needs improvement, it is time to strategize.  If you feel like you fell short on a past campaign, consider leveraging the initiatives that were successful while upgrading those that weren’t. You should also keep an eye out for new market opportunities like a new product or service line.  If your customers are looking at competitors, maybe it is because what you offer doesn’t include everything they need. Look at what experience and resources you need, in order to introduce this new opportunity.  Before you go to market, make sure your messaging strategy aligns with your overall marketing campaign as well.

4. Create Your Budget

No matter the size of your business, you need to create a budget.  Looking at past budgets and expenses, you can begin to develop next year’s overall marketing budget.  Using your plan, make sure that you properly allocate funds to each campaign and expense.  If you think you can’t afford something, write it out.  Figure out what you need and what you can cut out without potentially losing profit.

5. Act on Your Improvements

With a strategy in place and a budget to support it, you can start to make your improvements, just in time for 2018!  Communicate your new messaging strategy to your customers.  Keep a close eye on any new operations or campaigns and make sure to measure their effectiveness.
