April 21, 2015 was a normal day just like any other, but when it came to the online world…April 21, 2015 marked Google’s “Mobilegeddon.” Google announced a new mobile-friendly ranking algorithm that is designed to give a boost to mobile-friendly web pages. This is great for sites that are already responsive to mobile and smart devices…but what about everyone else?
Company’s with a website that is unresponsive to mobile and smart devices will not be filtered into Google’s new mobile-friendly algorithm, which in simple terms means that unresponsive sites will no longer be able to be ranked by Google, despite any SEO structures set in place.
Why is this important?
Aside from not being ranked by Google, websites that are not user-friendly from a mobile or smart device are at a severe disadvantage when it comes to expanding your reach with consumers. Over 50% of all e-commerce traffic is from mobile devices. This means that your consumers are looking for your services and products constantly, and if they can’t find you on their mobile devices, they are going to one of your competitors that have a responsive and clean mobile site.
Mobile devices were designed initially for one simple purpose…to be able to have a conversation and send a message to someone no matter where he/she was in the world. Having a mobile-friendly site allows you and your brand to do just that…have a conversation with your potential customer about who you are as a brand and what you have to offer them.
